New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a calf strain, manager Aaron Boone announced Friday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone said Judge's MRI showed a "very mild" strain and that he was told it is "Grade 1 or even less than that," Hoch reports.

The skipper added that he believes the two-time All-Star's injury is the result of "wear and tear," and not due to anything that happened during the team's last series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

"He's as tough as they come, and he's a guy that has demonstrated the ability to play through things and grind through things," Boone said. "He wants to get back on the field as quickly as possible."

The 28-year-old slugger is one of the early favorites to win AL MVP after belting nine home runs with a 1.101 OPS in 17 games.

New York will recall infielder Thairo Estrada to replace Judge on the active major-league roster, according to Hoch.
