San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler announced right-hander Jeff Samardzija will be shut down for at least seven days after an MRI revealed rotator cuff inflammation in his right shoulder, according to Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com.

Samardzija was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement while the club awaited MRI results.

The 35-year-old has posted a 9.88 ERA and 9.29 FIP in 13 2/3 innings over three starts this season. On Friday, the former All-Star surrendered a trio of homers against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing six runs - five earned - on seven hits and two walks.

Samardzija is in the final season of a five-year, $90-million contract signed prior to the 2016 campaign.
