New York Yankees right-hander Domingo German posted a cryptic story on Instagram Friday evening, stating "I left baseball. Thanks my people," according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

The pitcher shared another ambiguous post, suggesting he'd be happy looking back on his 11-year career if he never returns:

"Everybody writes their own story with two sides," the caption reads, as ESPN's Hector Gomez translated. "I believe I wrote mine at Yankee Stadium. If I choose not to come back I will be proud for my hard work in 11 years of career. May God bless everybody that supported me."

Asked for comment, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he's aware of German's posts but has nothing further to offer, according to Hoch.

The 27-year-old was suspended for 81 games after violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. His punishment began at the end of the 2019 season and is set to continue into the 2020 campaign.

After returning to the Yankees in 2019, German authored a 4.03 ERA and 4.72 FIP over 143 innings.

He's still in the pre-arbitration phase of his contract. If he plays a full season in 2020, the Dominican will be eligible for arbitration for the first time next winter, and eligible for free agency following the 2023 campaign.

It's unclear whether the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is impacting German's decision about his playing status this season.
