Report: Phillies keeping Nola away from camp because of COVID-19 protocols
The Philadelphia Phillies are keeping ace starting pitcher Aaron Nola, outfielder Adam Haseley, and catcher Christian Bethancourt away from summer camp because of COVID-19 protocols, reports Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The three players are not with the team because they have either tested positive for the virus, shown symptoms, had contact with an infected person, or their test results are missing or inconclusive, a source told Breen.
It was originally reported by Breen that Nola, Haseley, and Bethancourt had been placed on the COVID-19 injured list, and while that remains a possibility, it apparently isn't the case just yet.
Scott Kingery, Tommy Hunter, Hector Neris, and Ranger Suarez are already on the Phillies' COVID-19 IL.
Nola pitched 200-plus innings for a second consecutive season in 2019, authoring a 12-7 record with a 3.87 ERA and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings. The Louisiana native finished third in National League Cy Young voting in 2018.
