ESPN game: Doosan Bears (+135) @ NC Dinos (-165)

The two best teams in the league meet Tuesday in a nationally televised tilt as the first-place Dinos host the second-place Bears in the first contest of their three-game set.

Two relentless lineups should take center stage with a pair of underwhelming starters on the mound. Doosan will trot out 19-year-old Jo Je-yeong for his KBO debut, while the Dinos will counter with Choi Sung-young, who's having a miserable start to the campaign.

Jo gets the first shot to fill the Bears' vacant rotation spot with Lee Yong-chan out for the season. The fourth-round pick will have a difficult time sticking with the team if he can't improve on his numbers from the futures league; he allowed nine runs on 15 hits and 10 walks through just 15 innings this season. That's not going to cut it against a Dinos lineup that leads the league in batting average, runs, home runs, walks, slugging percentage, OBP, and OPS.

The hosts should provide their starter with plenty of run support, and he'll likely need it. Choi has been remarkably poor in two appearances this season, giving up 10 hits and two walks in just seven innings. An 8.47 FIP suggests his inflated 5.14 ERA should continue to climb.

Though he hopped between the bullpen and rotation last season, Choi wound up making four starts against the Bears. He pitched fewer than five innings in three of them, managing an impressive seven shutout frames in the other. He posted a 3.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over those four appearances, but those numbers balloon to 5.73 and 2.00, respectively, without that single dominant start.

The Bears' offensive numbers haven't quite been at the Dinos' level thus far, but they're impressive nonetheless. Their lefty-heavy lineup puts them at a slight disadvantage, but they should still be able to do their part to help this game climb over the total.

Pick: Over 12.5 (-120)

  • Samsung Lions (+100)
