The St. Louis Cardinals returned home to Busch Stadium trailing the Houston Astros 3-2 in the 2004 NLCS, and they were very nearly ousted in Game 6. However, the Cardinals prevailed thanks to Jim Edmonds' walk-off home run in the 12th, which forced the deciding contest.
In Game 7, right-hander Jeff Suppan was handed the unenviable task of facing Roger Clemens, yet he was up to the task, allowing two runs on three hits over seven innings of work. It was enough for the Cardinals to earn a trip to the Fall Classic against the eventual champion Boston Red Sox.
