Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Connor Joe underwent surgery for testicular cancer Tuesday, he announced Wednesday in an Instagram post.
"As some of you may know, I made the difficult decision to leave Spring Training (three) weeks ago to attend to personal matters," he wrote. "After some tests and visits with doctors, I unfortunately learned that I have testicular cancer. The good news is that we caught it early, and cases like mine are very curable. I have started treatment, underwent surgery yesterday, and am in my recovery process now."
Joe made his major-league debut in 2019 as a member of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants previously acquired him in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds after the Reds landed him from the Dodgers in the 2018 Rule 5 Draft. Joe subsequently rejoined the Dodgers organization because he didn't finish the season in San Francisco.
Following his return, the 27-year-old hit .300/.426/.503 with 15 home runs and 68 RBIs in 105 games for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Los Angeles' Triple-A affiliate in the Pacific Coast League.
