Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association announced Monday that they will make a joint donation of $1 million to emergency food services.

The donation is intended to "help fight hunger as a result of school closures and quarantines stemming from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic," the statement read. "The donation will be split evenly among Feeding America and Meals on Wheels America."

Houston Astros players Alex Bregman and Lance McCullers Jr. announced over the weekend that they would donate quarantine food kits to the Houston Food Bank.

Other MLB players, including George Springer and Trevor Bauer, have already made financial donations or are raising money to help people in need.
