The Boston Red Sox are officially on the hunt for a new manager, but their new executive isn't likely to poach a specific member of his former staff.

Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro is unlikely to be considered for Boston's managerial vacancy, despite previously working under Chaim Bloom with the Rays, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Bloom now serves as the Red Sox chief baseball officer after working as the vice president of baseball operations for the Rays from 2014-19.

Rosenthal added that some teams have rules in place to prevent executives from poaching additional personnel from their former employer.

While Quatraro may not be in the running, the Red Sox seem inclined to look externally for their next manager, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Quatraro, 46, was recently a finalist for the vacant San Francisco Giants management gig, before the club elected to hire Gabe Kapler.

Quatraro became the Rays bench coach when the club's active bench coach - Charlie Montoyo - was hired to manage the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays.

The Rays recently lost their major-league field coordinator Rocco Baldelli, who was hired to manage the Minnesota Twins.
