A group of players and coaches with the Houston Astros asked the organization for access to a live feed from a center-field camera in 2017 in order to study opposing teams' signs, sources told Andy Martino of SNY.

Some of those witnesses interviewed by Major League Baseball as part of its investigation into sign-stealing allegations reportedly thought their behavior was the industry standard and that other teams were doing similar things.

"We did ask for a game center-field feed to decode signs, as many teams do," one witness told the league. "All we asked for was a live feed."

According to these witnesses, the camera used was already in place when the group asked for access to the live feed and wasn't installed for sign-stealing purposes.

MLB's ongoing investigation into the Astros stems from a November report that four people who were formerly with the club - including pitcher Mike Fiers - confirmed that Houston was stealing signs in real time during the 2017 season.

Since the investigation has yet to conclude, the severity of any potential punishment hasn't been determined.
