The New York Yankees traded left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for international bonus slot money, the team announced Monday.

Cortes was designated for assignment last week in order to make room on the 40-man roster.

Cortes, 24, logged 66 2/3 innings at the major-league level in 2019, authoring a 5.67 ERA and a 5.57 FIP. The southpaw primarily worked out of the bullpen and made one start as an opener early in the season.

In Triple-A, Cortes made six starts and one relief appearance, posting a 3.86 ERA and a 3.40 FIP.
