Manfred: Investigation of Astros to cover last 3 seasons
Major League Baseball is expanding its investigation into the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal.
Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Thursday that the probe will now cover the 2018 and 2019 campaigns in addition to 2017, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle.
"We are talking to people all over the industry, former employees, competitors, whatever," Manfred said. "To the extent that we find other leads, we are going to follow these leads. We will get to the bottom of what we have out there in terms of what went on to the extent that it’s humanly possible."
The investigation was launched earlier in November after former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers and three others claimed the club used an outfield camera to steal signs during Houston's championship season in 2017.
When this week's owners meetings began, Manfred announced there's "no reason" for the league to believe the scandal goes beyond the Astros.
The commissioner again declined to speculate about what potential punishment is facing Houston if the team is found to be in the wrong.
