Lourdes Gurriel Jr.'s season came to an end Monday when Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo announced that the Cuban outfielder will have his appendix removed, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.

Gurriel was a late scratch from Monday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with what was initially described as an illness. He was replaced in the lineup by Jonathan Davis.

The 25-year-old played well for Toronto when healthy, hitting .277/.327/.541 with 20 home runs and 50 RBIs in 84 games.

Gurriel dealt with a number of injuries this season, including a strained quadriceps and right knee issues.
