Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez underwent a minor heart procedure on Monday after feeling chest pains while in the team's dugout Sunday, general manager Mike Rizzo announced, according to MLB.com's Jamal Collier.

A cardiac catheterization was performed on the 54-year-old, according to The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli, who explains the procedure involves the insertion of a catheter into a chamber or vessel of the heart.

"(He) went through that this morning very well. I spoke to him (a) couple hours ago and he was upbeat and (said he) felt fine," Rizzo said, according to Ghiroli. "He's going to be kept over there for some routine follow-up bloodwork and examination and he'll be back with the team when he feels up to it.

"We have no other information; we have to wait until we get all the tests."

Martinez will remain in Washington for now, with Chip Hale managing the club until he returns, MASN's Mark Zuckerman adds.

The Nationals open a six-game road trip to St. Louis and Miami on Monday before completing the final eight games of their season in Washington.

They currently hold the first wild-card spot in the National League.
