The Boston Red Sox have signed right-hander Jhoulys Chacin to a minor-league contract, the team announced on Saturday.
Boston will only be responsible for Chacin's prorated minimum salary - a bit less than $100,000 - if he's added to the major-league roster, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
The Milwaukee Brewers released the veteran on Aug. 25 after he authored a 3-10 record with a 5.79 ERA.
The 31-year-old was Milwaukee's Opening Day starter after a solid 2018 campaign that included three postseason starts.
Boston's rotation is currently without left-handers Chris Sale and David Price, who are both on the injured list.
