Yankees set single-month record with 59th HR in August

DJ LeMahieu wasted no time helping his team make history.

With LeMahieu's leadoff home run on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Yankees set a new major-league record with the club's 59th long ball in August - the most by a team in any month.

On Saturday, the Yankees tied the mark when Aaron Judge smashed a 424-foot home run for their lone run in the contest. The Yankees matched the 1987 Baltimore Orioles and the 1999 Seattle Mariners with the booming shot.

The Orioles hit 58 home runs in 28 games, and it took the Mariners 27 to reach the mark. The Yankees needed just 24 contests to set the record.

Aaron Judge and Mike Ford also homered Sunday, raising the Yankees' August total to 61 - and more could be on the way. New York will play five more games before the calendar turns.
