Braves sign Hechavarria with Swanson still sidelined
The Atlanta Braves signed shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria to a one-year contract Friday, the team announced.
Hechavarria played 60 games with the New York Mets this season before being designated for assignment and subsequently released. The defensive specialist hit .204/.252/.359 with five home runs.
With Dansby Swanson - out since July 23 - working his way back from a foot injury, Hechavarria will serve as added insurance for Atlanta. Swanson has participated in fielding drills but hasn't been cleared to run and remains without a specific timetable to return, according to David O'Brien of The Athletic.
Johan Camargo has served as the team's primary shortstop during Swanson's absence. Camargo has now been optioned to Triple-A along with outfielder Adam Duvall, with right-hander Bryse Wilson recalled.
