Major League Baseball will head to the "Field of Dreams" site in Iowa during the 2020 season, when the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox play the first-ever MLB game where the film was set in Dyersville, Iowa.

The White Sox will act as the home team for the game on Thursday, Aug. 13, before the three-game series with New York resumes over the weekend at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

The "Field of Dreams" game will technically not be played on the original field from the 1989 film, as MLB intends to build a new 8,000-seat stadium due to the lack of seating and the dimensions at the original.

Construction will begin next week, and the layout will pay homage to Comiskey Park, the home of the White Sox from 1910-90, which would have featured "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, Chick Gandil, Eddie Cicotte, and Swede Risberg - all of whom are characters in the film and played integral roles in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

The new ballpark will be larger than BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field, which has hosted MLB games for the Little League Classic and can seat 2,366.

"As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular-season game to the site of 'Field of Dreams,'" league commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement acquired by Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com.

"We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa."
