2020 MLB schedule key dates: Trout returns to Philly, L.A. All-Star Game

Major League Baseball released its 2020 schedule on Monday, and fans will want to circle these dates on their calendars:

March 26: Opening Day

All 30 teams will play on the first day of the new campaign. A few games to note: The San Francisco Giants will head to Chavez Ravine to take on their state rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Yankees will visit the Baltimore Orioles, the Chicago Cubs travel to Wisconsin to match up against the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Boston Red Sox will be north of the border to play the Toronto Blue Jays.

March 31: Rangers christen new home

The Texas Rangers will play the Los Angeles Angels in the first regular-season game at Globe Life Field. The Rangers' new $1.1 billion stadium is expected to be completed in early March 2020, and the first exhibition contest at the venue is scheduled for March 23.

April 15: Plenty of action on Jackie Robinson Day

In 2020, 28 clubs will play while wearing the No. 42 as the league celebrates the man who broke baseball's color barrier. Some players raised concerns about the light schedule on Jackie Robinson Day in 2019, and it appears that issue has been corrected for next season.

April 28-29: Greinke returns to the desert

Right-hander Zack Greinke will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field for the first time since being sent to the Houston Astros in a blockbuster trade deadline deal. The 35-year-old ace played three-and-a-half seasons with the D-Backs. Greinke started 114 games during that span, posting a 3.40 ERA with 683 strikeouts. He was named to two All-Star teams and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting in 2017.

April 28-30: Marlins, Mets head to Puerto Rico

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins will face off at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico in a rematch of a series the two clubs played a decade ago at the same historic ballpark. The last major-league game in San Juan took place in 2018 between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians.

June 13-14: Cubs, Cardinals play across the pond

London is calling for a second straight year. The Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will lock horns at London Stadium after the Yankees and Red Sox put on an offensive show in late June 2019. Boston and New York combined to score 50 runs during a two-game series with nearly 120,000 fans in attendance.

June 19-21, 26-28: Red Sox head to Wrigley, Cubs visit New York

The Red Sox will visit the Cubs for only the third time during the regular season. Boston will also be making its first trip to Wrigley Field since 2012. A few days later, the Cubs will head to the Bronx to take on the Yankees at Yankee Stadium for just the third time ever. The last time that happened was in April 2014.

July 14: All-Stars come to Hollywood

The Dodgers will host the All-Star Game for the first time since 1980. The 91st edition of the Midsummer Classic will mark the third time the team has hosted the event in Los Angeles.

July 17-19: Trout returns to Philly to take on Harper

Call it a homecoming of sorts for the best player in baseball. Angels superstar Mike Trout will play at Citizens Bank Park against the Philadelphia Phillies for only the second time in his career. The two-time AL MVP grew up an hour's drive away in Millville, N.J. Trout will also face Bryce Harper for only the fourth time.

August 13: MLB comes to Iowa's Field of Dreams

History will be made when the Yankees and Chicago White Sox meet for the MLB at Field of Dreams game, the first time a major-league contest is played in Iowa. An 8,000-seat ballpark will be built in a cornfield near the iconic field from the movie. If you build it, they will come.

August 23: Red Sox, O's clash in Little League Classic

The fourth edition of the event will see the Red Sox and Orioles play at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa. What makes this game unique is that a large portion of the fans attending will be players and families from participating Little League Baseball World Series teams.
