Stephen Strasburg came to play.

Called upon to face the Atlanta Braves from the mound, the Washington Nationals right-hander has also been the biggest offensive contributor so far in Thursday night's contest.

Strasburg went 3-for-3 before being removed in the sixth inning, becoming the first pitcher to tally five RBIs in a game since Madison Bumgarner did so April 11, 2014. The last hurler to drive in more than five was Chris Carpenter, who notched six RBIs in 2009.

The 30-year-old led off the third inning with a single and later came up again in the third with a pair of runners on. It was a considerably different result.

Strasburg's homer was the fourth of his career and first since 2017. It also raised his season batting average from .073 to .136. He became the first pitcher to get a home run and another hit in the same inning since Edwin Jackson in 2010, according to ESPN.
