Rays trade Solak to Rangers for Fairbanks

The Texas Rangers acquired second baseman Nick Solak from the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday in exchange for right-handed reliever Pete Fairbanks, the club announced.

Solak, 24, was traded to the Rays from the New York Yankees in February 2018 in a three-team deal that sent Steven Souza to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The former second-round pick owns a .266/.353/.485 slash line with 17 home runs and three stolen bases with Triple-A Durham this season. Solak will need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason in order to prevent him from being taken in the Rule 5 draft.

Fairbanks, a right-handed reliever, has made eight major-league appearances this season, posting a 9.35 ERA and 8.16 FIP over 8 2/3 innings.

Across three minor-league levels this year, the 25-year-old has authored a 4.15 ERA over 26 frames, striking out 40 of the 106 batters he faced.

In order to make room for Fairbanks, the Rays transferred Christian Arroyo to the 60-day injured list.
