Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts will be an All-Star, after all.

Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that Bogaerts, Tampa Bay Rays rookie Brandon Lowe, and Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios will serve as injury replacements for the American League at next week's Midsummer Classic.

They will take the spots of Los Angeles Angels infielder Tommy La Stella, Twins starter Jake Odorizzi, and Texas Rangers outfielder Hunter Pence.

Bogaerts, an All-Star in 2016, was taken aback when he realized he wouldn't be voted in as a starter. He was then left off the reserve list when initial rosters were announced.

The 26-year-old is enjoying a career season at the plate, batting .301/.392/.541 with 16 home runs and an AL-leading 28 doubles in 82 games.

Berrios takes the reins from teammate Odorizzi who is sidelined by a blister. This will mark Berrios' second consecutive trip to the All-Star Game, and he's been even better this season than last. The 25-year-old right-hander is 8-4 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 112 innings.

Lowe is himself a question mark after leaving Tuesday's game with a contusion on the lower part of his right leg. In 76 games, Lowe has hit .276/.339/.523 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 9 at 7:30 p.m., ET at Cleveland's Progressive Field.
