Reds' Dietrich ties MLB record for HBP in single game
Derek Dietrich likely woke up sore on Saturday morning, but he's the proud new co-owner of an MLB record for his efforts.
The Cincinnati Reds slugger tied a league mark by getting hit by a pitch in three separate plate appearances Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Getting on base is big whether it’s a walk, hit, hit by pitch, it doesn’t matter. When you’re on base, you’re creating chaos. The way we’re hitting now, it’s important.”

Brewers starter Chase Anderson hit him twice and reliever Junior Guerra drilled him once. Dietrich quietly took his base the first two times it happened but seemed to be losing his patience the third time.
Dietrich has been hit an MLB-leading 14 times despite not qualifying for the batting title. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and Washington Nationals outfielder Victor Robles are tied for second with 12 plunkings apiece, though they've had 264 and 247 plate appearances, respectively. Dietrich has only stepped into the batter's box 169 times.
He finished with an 0-for-1 line despite scoring four times in the 11-7 victory.
