Stanton returns to Yankees after being sidelined since April
The New York Yankees reinstated outfielder Giancarlo Stanton from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, the team announced.
Stanton has been out of the Yankees' lineup due to various injuries since the beginning of April. The 29-year-old slugger has dealt with a left biceps strain, a left shoulder strain, and calf tightness.
The four-time All-Star has only played in three games this season. He hit 38 home runs with a .852 OPS in his first campaign with New York in 2018.
The return of the 2017 NL MVP gives the club another huge middle-of-the-order threat. The Yankees have hit the seventh-most homers (117) in the majors in 2019 despite missing Stanton and Aaron Judge for large portions of the season. The latter is expected to return soon as well.
With the recent addition of Edwin Encarnacion via a trade with the Seattle Mariners and the improved health of their two most prolific hitters, the Yankees' lineup looks to be the toast of the league.
New York (44-27) entered Tuesday's action with a 1 1/2-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays.
