The San Diego Padres scratched rookie phenom Chris Paddack from Sunday's scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays with a stiff neck, the team announced.

Left-hander Robbie Erlin will start the game in Paddack's place.

Through nine starts, the 23-year-old Paddack is 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings. His dominant start has garnered him attention in a crowded National League Rookie of the Year race alongside Pete Alonso, Alex Verdugo, and teammate Fernando Tatis Jr.

Paddack is now scheduled to start Wednesday against the New York Yankees, barring any setbacks, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
