New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton returned from his rehab assignment Wednesday due to left calf tightness, the team announced.

Manager Aaron Boone described the injury as a mild calf strain and said Stanton will be shut down for seven-to-10 days, according to Coley Harvey of ESPN.

By ending his stint with High-A Tampa, the Yankees can reset Stanton's rehab clock back to 20 days when he's ready to try again, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic.

The slugging outfielder suffered his latest injury when he was hit by a pitch in live batting practice, Adler adds.

Stanton has been on the injured list since April 1. Initially, he landed on the shelf with a strained left biceps before a shoulder injury prolonged his spell on the sidelines.

There was some hope that the 2017 NL MVP would rejoin the big-league club relatively soon. Boone said Tuesday, before the latest setback, that there was a chance Stanton would play with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre later this week. That is no longer on the table.

After hitting 38 home runs in his first season with the Yankees in 2018, Stanton was limited to three games before being placed on the injured list this spring. He is without a specific timetable for a return.
