Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will undergo surgery Tuesday to remove loose bodies from his throwing elbow, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Eovaldi, 29, was scheduled to meet with doctors Monday after the Red Sox placed him on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 18.

The surgery is expected to be similar to the arthroscopic elbow procedure Eovaldi underwent in 2018 while a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, which resulted in the righty missing approximately two months.

Eovaldi owns a 6.00 ERA and 6.99 FIP over 21 innings (four starts) this year. He re-signed with Boston this winter to a four-year, $68-million deal after he was granted free agency.

Over 111 innings last season, Eovaldi authored a 3.81 ERA and 3.60 FIP between the Rays and Red Sox.
