The Boston Red Sox have called up third baseman Michael Chavis from Triple-A Pawtucket, the team announced Friday.

Infielder Eduardo Nunez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a mild back strain and the team selected Chavis as his replacement on the roster.

Chavis, 23, has yet to make his big-league debut but has acclimated himself well to Triple-A this season. Through 12 games, he is hitting .250/.354/.600 with four home runs and six RBIs across 48 plate appearances.

The rookie was Boston's only representative among MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects for the 2019 season.

Chavis received an 80-game suspension in 2018 after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He responded by saying he never knowingly took a prohibited substance.

In addition to promoting Chavis, the Red Sox also recalled infielder Tzu-Wei Lin and designated pitcher Erasmo Ramirez for assignment.
