Miguel Cabrera cashed in the 1,637th RBI of his career against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, officially passing Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks in the record books.
The groundball punched past a diving Adalberto Mondesi brought Nicholas Castellanos to the plate and propelled the Detroit Tigers all-time great ahead of the Hall of Famer and two-time National League MVP.
Though the Tigers tweeted that Cabrera took sole possession of 29th on the all-time leaderboard, most databases, including Baseball-Reference, have him in 32nd.
Rank | Player | RBI |
---|---|---|
25 | Frank Thomas | 1704 |
26 | Reggie Jackson | 1702 |
27 | Jim Thome | 1699 |
28 | Cal Ripken Jr. | 1695 |
29 | Gary Sheffield | 1676 |
30 | Sammy Sosa | 1667 |
31 | Tony Perez | 1652 |
32 | Miguel Cabrera | 1637 |
33 | Ernie Banks | 1636 |
Cabrera could realistically find himself in that No. 29 spot by the end of the season if he manages to stay healthy, and in the chase behind Hall of Famers Thome and Ripken.
