The Toronto Blue Jays broke up the Cleveland Indians' combined no-hitter Thursday with no outs in the ninth inning after a Freddy Galvis single off closer Brad Hand.

Toronto ended up scoring a run in the ninth off Hand after two more hits, but the Indians held on to win 4-1.

Cleveland's pitchers silenced the Blue Jays' bats despite showing poor command at times, as they collectively walked eight batters.

Right-hander Trevor Bauer started the game and went seven innings without allowing a hit while striking out eight. He also walked six and left the game after 117 pitches. Reliever Jon Edwards took over and got two outs but loaded the bases in the eighth before Hand came on to get the final out.

Bauer became just the fourth pitcher in baseball's modern era to be pulled multiple times with a no-hit bid after six-plus innings, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Aaron Harang, Kent Mercker, and Jim Maloney are the only others, and the last two eventually threw no-hitters.

Cleveland has now gone 6010 straight games without a no-no, the second-longest streak in AL history behind the 1912-1952 Detroit Tigers (6108), according to Stats by STATS.

The silver lining for the Blue Jays is that they didn't get immortalized in the history books. Still, it has been an ugly start to the season for Toronto's offense, which has been held hitless into the sixth inning or later four times in its opening eight games.

The Blue Jays are the fourth team in the last five seasons to have 44 hitless innings in their first eight contests, according to EliasSports, via ESPN Stats & Info. No other team had more.

The other three teams to claim the dubious distinction all finished with at least 90 wins in 2018 - the Tampa Bay Rays (90), Indians (91), and Los Angeles Dodgers (92).
