Once again, Tim Tebow's attempt to crack the New York Mets' Opening Day roster came up short.

The outfielder and former Heisman-winning quarterback was reassigned to minor-league camp on Tuesday as part of a series of roster cuts, the Mets announced.

It's expected that Tebow will start the regular season at Triple-A Syracuse, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. That assignment would mark his fourth promotion since joining the Mets organization in 2017, and leave him one level shy of the major leagues.

"I see myself trying to get better every day. And if I get that opportunity (in MLB) it would be a blessing," Tebow told reporters Tuesday, according to Matt Ehalt of NorthJersey.com. "If not, either way, I'm going to continue working as hard as I can to be the best that I can. One day it's good enough to do that, that would be really fun."

After being cut last year, Tebow, 31, earned another invitation to big-league camp on the heels of his All-Star 2018 campaign at the Double-A level. He received plenty of opportunities during his time in the Grapefruit League this spring but failed to make an impact, going 4-for-15 with one RBI, three strikeouts, and zero extra-base hits over eight games.

However, those numbers were still an improvement from his 1-for-18 spring performance with the Mets in 2018, after which he was sent down.

Since abandoning his career as an NFL quarterback to join the Mets, Tebow's appeared in 210 minor-league games across three levels. He owns a career slash line of .244/.319/.367 with 14 homers, 38 doubles, and 88 RBIs.

The Mets also reassigned seven other players to minor-league camp Tuesday, including No. 2 prospect Andres Gimenez.
