Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager will be out for at least the month of April after injuring a tendon in his left hand, but otherwise has no timetable for recovery, manager Scott Servais told Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Seager will undergo surgery on his left hand on Tuesday, according to Divish.
An All-Star in 2014, Seager has been a mainstay at Seattle's hot corner for parts of eight seasons. The injury - which will result in his first career trip to the injured list - represents the latest disappointment in what has been a trying couple years for the 31-year-old.
Though healthy in 2018, Seager hit a disappointing .221/.273/.400 with 22 home runs over 155 games for the worst offensive season of his career.
Prior to sustaining the injury on Friday in a Cactus League game, Seager had started spring off on the right foot by slashing .318/.375/.409 over 22 at-bats.
In his absence, the Mariners could turn to Ryon Healy, who served as a third baseman with the Oakland Athletics before transitioning to first base full time a year ago.
