The current free-agent class features a deep crop of second basemen, and the position could see another player on the move with the San Francisco Giants reportedly testing the trade market.

The Giants are talking with teams about potential deals for Joe Panik, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. San Francisco is also among the teams interested in free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

The 28-year-old Panik has regressed heavily since his 2015 All-Star campaign. From 2016-18, he produced a 99 OPS+ with 32 home runs in 467 games, and is coming off of his worst season to date. The one-time Gold Glover will enter his final year of arbitration next winter.

LeMahieu, 30, is coming off another Gold Glove season during which he authored a .276/.321/.428 slash line with 15 home runs as a member of the Colorado Rockies. The two-time All-Star is two years removed from his only season as an above-average hitter, as he posted a 128 OPS+ in 2016.

The two reports came soon after the Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year deal with second baseman Brian Dozier, which may have indicated that the market for the position is heating up. LeMahieu, Jed Lowrie, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Josh Harrison - among others - remain available, while Dozier, Daniel Murphy, and Ian Kinsler are the only second basemen who've landed new contracts.
