Former LLWS star Mo'ne Davis to play softball at Hampton University
Mo'ne Davis, who rose to stardom during the 2014 Little League World Series, has committed to play softball at Hampton University in Virginia in the fall.
The Philadelphia native chose Hampton over Bethune-Cookman University, Southern University, Coppin State University, the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Pennsylvania, according to Daryl Bell of the Philadelphia Tribune.
At 13 years old, Davis became the first girl to earn a win and pitch a shutout in LLWS history. She was also the first little leaguer to appear on the national cover of Sports Illustrated.
Hampton coach Angela Nicholson said Davis will strictly be a middle infielder for the Pirates.
"Having Mo'ne is great," Nicholson told Dave Johnson of the Daily Press. "I know she doesn't want it to be about her, and neither do we. We want her to have a great experience and be like everybody else.
"But her status will come along with her. The press will come along with her, whether we want it or not. We're blessed to have her and we're excited for anything that will promote Hampton University."
