Report: Nationals agree to 2-year deal with Suzuki
The Washington Nationals have agreed to a two-year deal with catcher Kurt Suzuki, reports MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. This will be Suzuki's second stint in Washington, as he played for the Nationals from 2012-13.
Suzuki's deal will pay him $10 million, with $4 million coming his way in 2019 and $6 million in 2020, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Finalization of Suzuki's deal is pending a physical, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Four different catchers stood behind the plate for Washington last season, with Matt Wieters' 76 games leading the pack. Nationals catchers combined to hit .214/.304/.320 in 2018 and finished 14th in the National League with 12 home runs, ahead of only the Chicago Cubs.
Suzuki is coming off back-to-back productive seasons with the Atlanta Braves, combining to hit 31 home runs and post an .825 OPS during 186 games.
The 35-year-old veteran has 12 big-league seasons under his belt, playing for the Braves, Nationals, Oakland Athletics, and Minnesota Twins.
