The Philadelphia Phillies have placed first baseman Justin Bour on waivers, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The move opens a spot on the team's 40-man roster to protect a prospect from being selected by another team in the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The deadline to announce protected players is Nov. 20.

Acquired in an August trade with the Miami Marlins, the 30-year-old hit .224/.296/.347 with one home run and five RBIs in 29 games with Philadelphia. If he clears waivers, he could reject his minor-league assignment to become a free agent.

Bour's spot on the Phillies roster was already in jeopardy with Carlos Santana at first base. Philadelphia is also reportedly shopping Santana to make room for Rhys Hoskins at that position.

The lefty-hitting Bour could draw interest for his potent bat. Although he didn't have much of an impact in his brief tenure with the Phillies, he's hit 20 or more home runs on three different occasions.
