Athletics' Melvin named AL Manager of the Year
Oakland Athletics skipper Bob Melvin was named the American League Manager of the Year on Tuesday.
Melvin beat out Alex Cora of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox and Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Athletics vastly outperformed expectations en route to a 97-65 record (up from 75-87 in 2017) and a postseason berth, ultimately losing in the wild-card game against the New York Yankees.
Melvin was recently awarded a contract extension with Oakland, and he's excited to see what the future holds for his squad.

The 57-year-old also won the National League Manager of the Year in 2007 when he guided the Arizona Diamondbacks to 90 wins and the NL West title. Melvin's win in 2018 makes him only the eighth skipper to ever claim top manager honors three times, having won it with Oakland in 2012.
He's also only the second Athletics manager to win the accolade after Tony LaRussa won in 1988 and 1992.
