Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts was named the American League's Most Valuable Player on Thursday, beating out the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout and the Cleveland Indians' Jose Ramirez.

The superstar right fielder's first MVP victory was nearly unanimous as he claimed 28 of a possible 30 first-place votes.

Player 1st 2nd 3rd Points
Mookie Betts 28 2 410
Mike Trout 1 24 2 265
Jose Ramirez 1 10 208

Betts hit .346/.438/.640 with 32 home runs and 30 stolen bases in 136 games, leading the majors in batting average, slugging percentage, and runs scored.

It's the cherry on top of a fantastic season for the 26-year-old after being part of a dominant World Series champion Red Sox squad, earning a third Gold Glove award, and getting named to a third consecutive All-Star team.

He's the first Red Sox player to win the award since second baseman Dustin Pedroia did it in 2008.

Betts' teammate J.D. Martinez finished fourth in voting, and even earned one first-place vote.

Trout may not have won his third MVP, but he did finish in the top three for the sixth time in eight seasons. Other than his 40-game audition in 2011, he has never finished outside the top four in MVP voting.

Ever the good sport, Trout offered his congratulations to Betts shortly after the result was announced.
