The New York Mets have officially announced the hiring of Brodie Van Wagenen as their new general manager.

Van Wagenen, 44, becomes the 13th GM in the franchise's history, replacing Sandy Alderson who took a leave of absence during the 2018 season due to a recurrence of cancer. The position was filled in the interim by John Ricco, Omar Minaya, and J.P. Ricciardi.

According to the press release obtained by Tim Britton of The Athletic, the Mets will hold an introductory press conference for Van Wagenen on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET at Citi Field.

This marks Van Wagenen's first appointment as a Major League Baseball executive, previously serving as an agent and co-head of the baseball division of CAA. Among his notable clients was Mets ace Jacob deGrom.

While terms of the deal are not official, Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports reports that the contract is for four years.
