The Cincinnati Reds announced Sunday the hiring of David Bell as the team's new manager, making him the 63rd skipper in club history and 53rd since 1900.

The 46-year-old agreed to a three-year contract through 2021, with a club option for 2022, and will be introduced during a press conference on Monday at 11 a.m. ET.

Bell is a former big-leaguer infielder, who played 12 seasons with six different clubs. His father, Buddy Bell, currently works in the Reds' front office as a vice president and senior advisor to the general manager.

The younger Bell spent last season as vice president of player development for the San Francisco Giants after four years on the coaching staff of the St. Louis Cardinals.

His last three seasons with the Cardinals were as the team's bench coach under Mike Matheny.

Bell replaces Jim Riggleman, who was told he was out of the running for the position on Saturday.

Cincinnati finished last in the National League Central last season with a 67-95 record.
