The Boston Red Sox earned left-hander Chris Sale some extra rest by defeating the Houston Astros in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series to earn a spot in the World Series.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora has tabbed Sale to start Game 1 on Tuesday night at Fenway Park against either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Milwaukee Brewers, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.

Sale was originally slated to start Game 5, but was sidelined with a stomach ailment that sent him to the hospital last weekend. He was likely getting the ball had the Astros forced a sixth game.

In 10 1/3 innings this postseason against the Astros and New York Yankees, Sale has allowed four earned runs while striking out 14.

Fellow southpaw David Price, fresh off his ALCS heroics, is expected to toe the rubber in Game 2 on Wednesday.
