The Boston Red Sox have won the 2018 World Series, clinching their fourth championship since the 2004 curse-breaking title.

Steve Pearce's two home runs helped propel the Red Sox to a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5, including a two-run bomb in the first inning and an eighth-inning solo blast that tacked on the final insurance run. Following the contest, the 35-year-old first baseman was awarded World Series MVP.

Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez added solo shots of their own in the sixth and seventh frames, respectively.

David Price allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five to earn the win. Price, long maligned for his inability to perform in the playoffs, completed the 2018 postseason with a 3.46 ERA over 26 innings, including a pair of key victories in the World Series, as well as the win in the ALCS clincher.

After facing one batter in the eighth inning, Price turned it over to Joe Kelly who struck out the side. Boston ace Chris Sale took the ninth inning, also striking out the side to complete the victory.

Alex Cora became the fifth rookie manager to win the World Series and first since Bob Brenly led the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks to victory. Ralph Houk (1961 New York Yankees), Eddie Dyer (1946 St. Louis Cardinals), and Bucky Harris (1924 Washington Senators) are the others.

The Red Sox put the finishing touches on a dominant campaign during which they won 108 games in the regular season. They lost only three games in the postseason; one in each the division series, championship series, and Fall Classic.

The 2018 championship is the ninth in Boston's 117-year history, dating back to the 1903 Americans. The Red Sox are now tied for the third-most World Series titles with the Athletics, who won it five times before moving to Oakland.

Sunday's game marked the second consecutive year that the Dodgers lost the World Series on their home field after dropping Game 7 to the Houston Astros last season.
