Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez was forced to leave Game 4 of the NLCS with an ankle injury after throwing just two pitches in the second inning.

Gonzalez hurt his ankle while attempting to field a high one-hopper off the bat of Yasiel Puig to lead off the frame.

Following a brief delay during which Gonzalez attempted to walk off the injury, Brewers manager Craig Counsell summoned rookie right-hander Freddy Peralta from the bullpen.

Gonzalez wound up facing seven batters over his one inning of work, allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk.

This marks the second consecutive abbreviated postseason start for Gonzalez after his Game 1 performance ended at two innings as Milwaukee opted to lean heavily on its bullpen.

Including Tuesday's outing, Gonzalez owns a 4.91 ERA across 29 1/3 career postseason innings.
