Dodgers' Hernandez apologizes to fans after critical comments
Enrique Hernandez had some choice words following the Los Angeles Dodgers' 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Monday.
He called out Dodgers fans and the team for a lack of energy. On Tuesday, Hernandez issued a statement apologizing for giving the impression he's laying the blame on fans. His words, he said, came from being disappointed.
"I was really frustrated after the game and as a competitor, I was frustrated because of the way we played and the way I performed," he wrote. "I haven't done anything this series but that doesn't affect me that much as long as we win; last night we didn't and it got to me."
Hernandez, who also gave the Brewers credit for playing at a high level on the road, added that he's not one to make excuses.
"Again, we played like S--T! Unacceptable game to have during the postseason, especially at home. The term 'take the crowd out of it early' for every road team is actually a THING! Last night, the Brewers did just that."
Shortly before issuing his apology, Hernandez tweeted a self-deprecating and light-hearted reference to his comments.
Following his comments, Hernandez went to the plate for his first-inning at-bat to a new walk-up song: Sorry by Justin Bieber, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Hernandez and the Dodgers get their chance to right the ship against the Brewers in Game 4 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
