It's probably safe to say that Joe West isn't the most beloved man in blue.
The veteran umpire, who's often been at the center of controversy during his long career, was part of a bizarre play in Game 1 of the ALCS when Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez attempted to throw out the Astros' Jake Marisnick, who was trying to steal second.
Instead, Vazquez hit West square in the shoulder.
The play didn't end up hurting the Red Sox because Marisnick was stranded at second. But it was amusing for those watching at home, as the roasting of the 65-year-old West and his, er, lack of lateral movement started immediately on Twitter.
