Report: Brewers denied Giants permission to speak with Stearns
The work of Milwaukee Brewers general manager David Stearns has caught the attention of the San Francisco Giants. However, they won't be able to get their hands on the executive.
San Francisco asked to speak with Stearns about becoming their president of baseball operations, but were denied permission by Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The 33-year-old Stearns, who has at least one year remaining on his contract, according to Rosenthal's sources, is the architect behind this year's National League Central-division champions. Milwaukee has also advanced to the NLCS this season for the first time since 2011.
Since taking over as the Brewers' GM in September 2015, Stearns has acquired MVP candidate Christian Yelich and signed outfielder Lorenzo Cain to a five-year deal, among other transactions.
Brian Sabean is the current executive vice president of baseball operations for the Giants, who fired general manager Bobby Evans in September.
