D-Backs' Ziegler questions replay review after costly no call vs. Rockies

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler expressed his frustration towards Major League Baseball's replay review staff following a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

With one out and two runners on base in the eighth inning of a 2-2 tie, Ziegler induced a groundball that looked like the beginning of an inning-ending double play.

After Ziegler fielded the ball and threw to second, Rockies baserunner Charlie Blackmon slid towards the bag and threw his arms in the air in front of shortstop Nick Ahmed. Blackmon's slide and waving arms appeared to affect Ahmed's throw.

The Diamondbacks didn't turn the double play and the Rockies pounced on them for four runs in the inning after replay review claimed the slide was legal.

An upset Ziegler took to Twitter after the game to question the ruling in a series of tweets.

Replay confirmed the play wasn't a violation because Blackmon's foot went straight to second and he didn't appear to reach to interfere with Ahmed, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert.

"It turned out to be a huge part of the game," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo explained. "I've seen that play called where they would call a double play, and I've also seen it go the other way it went tonight. Maybe a little inconsistent at times, but they do the best job they possibly can when they're sitting in that replay booth in New York."

The loss was a big one for the Diamondbacks, who fell six games back of the second wild-card in the National League with eight games remaining in their season.
