The New York Mets have been dealt another injury blow as utility infielder Wilmer Flores was diagnosed with early onset arthritis Thursday and has been shut down for the remainder of the season, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Flores, 27, has worked all over the diamond for the Mets this year, splitting time between all three bases. Over 429 plate appearances, Flores authored a .267/.319/.417 slash line with 11 home runs.

For the Mets, it's the latest in what seems like a constant barrage of injuries. Franchise star David Wright is set to unofficially retire following this season after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis - a debilitating narrowing of the spinal column - during the 2015 campaign.

"It's not like surgery is recommended at this time or anything," Mets manager Mickey Callaway, who expects Flores to be ready for spring training, told DiComo. "Rest and a couple of injections is supposed to knock this out pretty good."

Flores is eligible for his final season of arbitration this offseason, but is a legitimate contender to get non-tendered by the Mets. In his career, Flores has logged 581 total games over six total seasons, all with New York.
