Reds' Harvey calls rough start vs. Brewers 'dogs---'

Matt Harvey didn't have his best stuff against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night and the right-hander was brutally honest in his self-assessment following the disappointing outing.

Allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings, the Cincinnati Reds hurler described his start to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic as "dogs---."

While the Reds are buried in last place, the Brewers are still making a postseason push, with a legitimate shot at overtaking the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central.

With games having increased meaning for Milwaukee, the Brewers' bats got to Harvey early. Christian Yelich hit a double in the first inning and advanced to third base on a passed ball from Tucker Barnhart.

Jesus Aguilar had a particularly strong game against Harvey, cashing in Yelich from his advanced position and then hitting a three-run home run in the third inning.

Harvey ran into the most trouble in the sixth inning, which he did not complete. After striking out Travis Shaw, Domingo Santana tripled off of the former All-Star. To knock Harvey out of the game, Manny Pina hit a three-run bomb of his own following an intentional walk of Mike Moustakas.

Harvey's season ERA swelled to 4.92 after the rough outing, in which he notched his 150th inning of the campaign - the first time he's eclipsed that mark since 2015.

Since being acquired by the Reds from the New York Mets, Harvey has authored a 4.46 ERA over 23 starts. Wednesday marked the second start of his Reds career in which Harvey has allowed seven or more earned runs, with the other being a dismal showing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 22 when he allowed eight earned runs over 3 2/3 innings.
