Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was hospitalized Tuesday with an infection in his right thigh.

The issue is unrelated to his recent surgery to relieve pain caused by testicular torsion, according to an announcement from the White Sox.

It appears the infection stems from an ingrown hair, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Abreu is day to day and expected to miss the entire three-game series against the Cleveland Indians, which begins Tuesday, reports MLB.com's Casey Harrison.

The 31-year-old was named to the American League All-Star team earlier this season. In 128 games, he owns a .265/.325/.473 slash line with 22 home runs and 78 RBIs for the rebuilding White Sox.
